TWO COURTYARDS
This 2-Storey house was part of Project 1, done in the second semester of my first academic year in DARCH. The project site is located along Pasir Ris Park. The Eco House is designed as a quiet and tranquil sanctuary for a retired elderly couple to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

REFUGE FROM THE CITY
The purpose of the house is to provide comfort and stimuli. A living environment away from the hustle and bustle of city life, for a more relaxing and rejuvenating experience and a habitable space designed to stimulate the homeowners who are constantly inspired by nature. Water is a key element, used in a strategic manner to create separation of spaces. The water also casts a reflection of its occupants in a poetic manner.

Program
Pockets and strategic placement of greens are placed through the site. Herb gardens aim to stimulate the senses with scent, greens provide visual relief, and water bodies present both audible and visual enjoyment. Large roof eaves shade the interior spaces to achieve human comfort and shield internal spaces from the harsh sun.
A large, porous feature wall separates the more "passive" dwelling spaces from the "active" ones. The term activerefers to a space I would interpret as one where the user socializes, hangs out with friends and other guests; the part the user wants others to see. Beyond the wall would be a space for familial gatherings and more personal elements like rest, contemplation, pause and privacy.
ENCLOSURES
The journey begins and unfolds around the water body. A strong wall splits the site into 2 zones. Study, porch, outdoor deck and the living room belong in the active zone while the dining space, bedrooms, kitchen and other service rooms are in the passive zone. The porous, feature wall marks the separation between the active and the passive.
